News Update
The Great Chocolate Challenge winners announced! Congratulations to Daniel Ng and Steve Williams, winners of the library Summer Reading Program. Each won a $20.00 gift certificate to Leigh’s Bookstore, Murphy Avenue, Sunnyvale. Happy reading to all who entered the contest!
The Great Chocolate Challenge
The theme of this year’s Summer Reading Program was “The Great Chocolate Challenge” in honor of the 50th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It featured books about chocolate delicacies and drew many participants, both children and adults!
Participation
All participants had to do was to read any book of their choice: from the St. Thomas Library, from a public library, borrowed from a friend or one that they had been waiting all year to read from their own bookshelf; e-books and audio books also counted. Even those too young to read could participate by having someone read a book to them!
Sharing Details of Books Read
Each Sunday after services, special candy wrappers were made available at the bulletin board in Cowans Hall for readers to record their name and their book title (one wrapper per book). The candy wrappers were counted at the the conclusion of the challenge.
Drawing for a Gift Certificate
On August 10, the challenge concluded with a drawing for two gift certificates – one for a child reader, and the other for an adult. Reader’s names were entered for each book they read so the more a person read, the better their chances of winning.
