Interview Preparation

The Rector Search Committee met with the Rev. Canon Brian Nordwick from the Diocese of El Camino Real and Joanna Shreve, Diocesan Liaison, to discuss the interviewing process now that the Parish Profile has been posted nationally and on the St. Thomas website. The posting will be kept open until March 9. The applications will be sent directly to the diocese, where they will be reviewed, and then forwarded to the Rector Search Committee, which will screen the candidates for phone interviews. A team has been formed to work with Joanna Shreve to prepare interview questions.

Why a Rector Search?

After 17 years of devoted ministry to Saint Thomas, our third Rector Wendy Smith retired in August 2013. In the interim, the Rev. Robert “Rob” L. Keim has faithfully been serving our parish until a permanent rector can be discerned.

A Change in Spiritual Leadership

As is customary in the Episcopal Church with a change in spiritual leadership, a rector search committee, chairperson and non-voting vestry member serving as liaison are appointed by the vestry to conduct a search process for a new rector.

The Rector Search Committee consists of 12 members, whom are listed below:

Ongoing Diocesan Review of Parish Profile

stthomas1911emblemdropshadowLRG

Responding to Diocesan Feedback

Based on the feedback from the Diocese, two sections of the Parish Profile have been updated and sent to the Diocese for review. The Diocese has approved the Office of Transitional Ministry narratives (OTM), which provided St. Thomas’ answers to the interview questions that candidates will be asked to answer. The Vestry is holding off on final approval of the OTM documents until they have had the opportunity to review the entire set of documents together, which include the Parish Profile and the OTM documents.

Ongoing Review of Parish Profile

The Rector Search Committee continues the process of reviewing and editing the Parish Profile. Specifically, we have been working on fine-tuning St. Thomas’ Core Values which will become part of the Parish Profile and which stems from our recent meetings with Joanna Shreve, Diocesan Search Consultant.
