Season of Advent – Dec. 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd

Advent marks the beginning of the Episcopalian liturgical calendar year. It welcomes us to prepare our hearts, minds and spirits for the advent or coming birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

The season begins with the first Sunday of Advent on December 1st followed consecutively by the second, third and fourth Sundays of Advent on December 8th, 15th and 22nd of this calendar year.

Each Sunday focuses on a different aspect of Jesus. The advent wreath with its colored candles helps of gather our focus as each candle is lit. The first is known as the “Prophet’s Candle” symbolizing an unfolding expectation, followed on the second Sunday by the “Bethlehem Candle” symbolizing faith. On the third Sunday, we light the “Shepherd’s Candle” to represent joy and in observance of the fourth and final Sunday of Advent, the “Angel’s Candle” is lit to represent peace, the transcendent gift of Christ.

In celebration of the final Sunday of Advent on December 22nd, we will share Lessons & Carols – rejoice with us!

JOIN US IN WORSHIP

Please join us in worship welcoming the Season of Advent. There will be a procession followed by the lighting of the Advent candle(s) with readings from the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), the Epistles and Gospels to follow that help us consider this sacred time. A sermon or homily will be offered and time of greeting.

There are two service times available: 8:00 and 10:30 AM. Each service has a slightly different character. The early morning service is quiet and reflective using traditional English language. The second service incorporates music and song into worship with more contemporary language.

NEW STUDENTS – FIRST VISIT

Hello Parents and Guardians – if this is your student’s first time with us, please arrive a few minutes early to register your child.

We follow safe church practices, so its important that we know who’s in attendance, have parents(s) or guardian(s) check children in-and-out, and provide us us with any important details including contact info in the event of an emergency. Teachers are happy to help 🙂

Education building doors are locked 10 minutes after church service begins for added security…so give yourself a little extra time this first day. Teachers will be available to offer assistance to parents and children with registration, questions or any special needs – just introduce yourself and they’ll take it from there. Thanks so much and we look forward to meeting you!

LET’S CLEAN UP FOR ADVENT

Join us on Saturday, October 26th from 9 AM – 1 PM for a friendly parish work day to enjoy fellowship with one another while we spruce up the campus in preparation for Advent and Christmastide!

THERE WILL BE NOURISHMENT

In gratitude for helping hands and our time together, lunch will be offered after the work is done.

SO, LET’S DO SOME CLEANING

As we approach Advent and Christmastide, envision our community time spent together to prepare our physical and spiritual house for the upcoming season of anticipation and celebration. In taking up our brooms, hammers, brushes and mops, we clean and tidy up the indoor and outdoor spaces, revitalizing their beauty and function while enhancing their sense of welcome to all. Through rolling up our sleeves together, we have occasion to experience spiritual renewal in a practical and meaningful way.

So, mark your calendars and make your way over to St. Thomas Episcopal Church – Saturday, October 26th – 9 AM to 1 PM.. You bring the elbow grease and we’ll take care of lunch!
