Advent marks the beginning of the Episcopalian liturgical calendar year. It welcomes us to prepare our hearts, minds and spirits for the advent or coming birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
The season begins with the first Sunday of Advent on November 29th followed consecutively by the second, third and fourth Sundays of Advent on December 6th, 13th and 20th of this calendar year. This year we have a special focus…
On the 1st Sunday of Advent – Nov. 29th, The Rev. Salying Wong will be participating in Changing the Lens St. Stephens SLO (San Luis Obispo) preaching series highlighting sermons coming from a distant cultural perspective.
Please join us as Pastor Salying reflects on woke, the fig tree and other lessons to illuminate her message. It is with hope that by letting God’s love rub away her violence, Salying aims to be peace in the world.
The following 2nd Sunday of Advent – Dec. 6th will feature The Rev. Ale Trillos, Rector of St. Peter’s/San Pablo. Rev. Ale is a native of Colombia and the rector of a fully bilingingual congregation in Salinas, California. Her sermon will explore Receiving God’s Grace Even in Our Unworthiness.
The 3rd Sunday of Advent – Dec. 13th will feature Dr. Leola Dublin Macmillan, a black activist in San Luis Obispo, California. She is a critical cultural scholar and social justice activist who works with the United Way in SLO County. She will be sharing about Hope in Things Unseen.
The 4th Sunday of Advent – Dec. 20th the Rev. Rick Uhls, Pastor of SLO United Methodist will round out the series with Mary’s Fiat: Let It Be.
