EVENT OVERVIEW
The Rev. Deacon Kathleen Crowe, Chaplain, Episcopal Ministry at San Jose State University, is presenting two workshops, Safeguarding God’s Children and Safeguarding God’s People. The workshops will be divided into two sessions: morning and afternoon, each lasting approximately 3 hours with a break for lunch in-between. Lunch will be provided.
Check-in and pay at the door before the training starts. If you plan only to attend the afternoon session, please come and join us for lunch. You may check-in and pay during the lunch break.
TRAINING SCHEDULE
Safeguarding God’s Children: 9:00AM – 12:00 Noon
Lunch Break (On Your Own): 12 Noon – 1:00PM
Safeguarding God’s People: 1:00PM to 4:00PM
FEES
$10 for one session or $15.00 for both sessions, by cash or check only (payable at the door). Lunch is included.

Morning Session: Safeguarding God’s Children – 3 Hour Training
Who is required to take this course
All employees and volunteers who work with or around children and youth including but not limited to those associated with Acolytes, Counseling, Children/Youth Choir, Nursery Care, Sunday School, Family Ministry, Cub and Boy Scouts, VBS-Vacation Bible School, and Vestry. Highly recommended for parents.
Course Description
The course provides a basic understanding of the dynamics of child sexual abuse, how to recognize signs that a child may have been abused, and what to do if you have concerns about a person’s behavior toward a child or youth, or if you suspect that a child or youth has been molested.
Afternoon Session: Safeguarding God’s People – 3 Hour Training
Who is required to take this course
All employees (i.e. clergy and staff) and volunteers who have a pastoral relationship with others including but not limited to those associated with Counseling, Pastoral Care, Eucharistic Ministers & Visitors, Lay Healing Ministers, Alpha, Cursillo & Stephen Ministers, and Vestry.
Course Description
The course covers the following:
– The definition of, and facts about, sexual exploitation
– The effects of sexual exploitation
– Facts about power in pastoral relationships
– How sexual exploitation happens
– How to prevent sexual exploitation
– How to respond to sexual exploitation
