Speaking the Intimate Tongue by the Rev. Salying Wong
The miracle at Pentecost is not the spectacle of a multiplicity of tongues; the miracle is that those who are displaced heard the intimate language of home. The creation of the church is joining what doesn’t seem to belong together into a new people, with its central organization principle of intimacy through and with God. The mother tongue here is the language of intimacy.
