ODB Summer Challenge – Hunger & Poverty in the Midst of Plenty

Dear Friends,

Silicon Valley is known around the world as a place of innovation, opportunity, and wealth but did you know that one in five of its residents is living in some level of poverty?

We want to introduce you to one such resident who is struggling to survive. We will call him Jimmy. Jimmy is a 64 year old retiree who has been coming to Our Daily Bread for over 3 years. He has Muscular Dystrophy and is confined to a wheel chair. He often lives in his car. Jimmy says [su_quote]ODB keeps me healthy. It gives me faith and hope. I feel blessed when I am here.[/su_quote]

by Jimmy, ODB Diner

Some of our diner’s stories are heartbreaking. Their journey out of poverty is uncertain and may never end but even one hot meal and a place where they feel welcome can make a difference.

Our Daily Bread is reaching out to you to request your help in making a difference in the lives of our neighbors living in poverty. ODB is the only constant source of a hot meal for many of the homeless and hungry who we serve. ODB served over 57,800 meals in 2016. With rents soaring across Santa Clara County and the ongoing shortage of affordable housing, we predict that the demand for meals will continue.

One of our benefactors has agreed to match all contributions received in August and September up to $15,000. Please help us meet this challenge.

☆ A donation of $117 will provide meals for a homeless person for 3 months.
☆ A donation of $351 will provide meals for a struggling mother and child for six months!
☆ A donation of $3 will provide a meal. ALL donations are greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions or wish to visit our program, please do not hesitate to Contact David Barnes, ODB Program Director online or by phone at 408-736-4108. Upon request, we would be happy to provide further information about our finances.

If you wish to donate online, please visit our website at OurDailyBread-Sunnyvale.org and click on the “DONATE” button at the bottom of any page. Or simply click on this link or copy it to your web browser:
