Lectors

Proclaiming God’s Word

Since early Christian communities began gathering for worship, lectors or lay readers have been chosen to read aloud from Scripture. At Saint Thomas, during our worship services there are typically one or two lectors who read the appointed Biblical passages for the day—the First Lesson, Psalm and Second Lesson.

This ministry gives adults and children alike an opportunity for spiritual growth while participating in leading worship. At our monthly Family Eucharist, when everyone joins together for the entire 10:30 A.M. Sunday service, children are encouraged to participate in the readings.

If you or your child feels called to proclaim God’s word by sharing the Scripture out loud, are willing to take time to prepare and understand the assigned passages, and have a clear, strong speaking voice, we invite you to explore this ministry.
