The Ethiopian Eunuch at the Ends of the Earth

by the Rev. Salying Wong

The Ethiopian Eunuch, who travels on the wilderness road, is a person at the ends of the earth–foreigner, religiously impure, sexually non-binary, and a tool of empire–is the one God desires to bring close to God’s self and to Phillip’s self. The church that is emerging in the Book of Acts is a gathering of people whom God desires and whom we have often been taught not to desire. We too have been included, who were once considered outside the covenant with Israel. As we continue to travel this road, whom else is God drawing near?
