Book Club usually meets once a month from 7 to 8 p.m. in the St. Thomas Library. We are an open book club: All are welcome, whether you have read the book or not. On Monday, June 28, using Zoom conferencing, we will meet to discuss Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya. Anaya’s tales fairly shimmer with the haunting beauty and richness of his Chicano culture; he is perhaps best loved for this classic bestseller. Antonio Marez is six years old when Ultima, a curandera, who cures with herbs and magic, comes to stay with his family in New Mexico. Under her wise wing, Tony will probe the family ties that bind and rend him, and he will discover himself in the magical secrets of the pagan past – a mythic legacy as palpable as Latin American Catholicism.
